3 millionth FloodSax alternative sandbag donated to a hospice along with a whole lot more

The Yorkshire company which devised FloodSax - the world’s leading and best-selling alternative sandbag - has just made its 3 millionth.

So to mark the occasion, Huddersfield business Environmental Defence Systems Ltd has donated this FloodSax along with many more and has become an official supporter of Huddersfield’s hospice called The Kirkwood which serves a large area of West Yorkshire including the other major towns of Dewsbury, Mirfield and Batley.

Environmental Defence Systems (EDS) will now be making a monthly donation to the hospice as it joins The Kirkwood Business Movement alongside more than 100 other companies who make the same commitment. It will also provide any more FloodSax free of charge the hospice needs to protect itself from flooding both inside and out.

EDS director Jessica Bailey said: “The hospice is a vital part of the local community and so we are very keen to support the wonderful work it does caring for people with terminal illnesses and their families.

“Escapes of water and flooding can quickly cause tens of thousands of pounds damage so we felt it was important to provide the FloodSax so the hospice can quickly deal with any leaks or floods and protect itself from the upheaval and trauma they cause.”

The Kirkwood business development manager Beverley Shaw said: “We have always relied on the support of local businesses who believe in the difference The Kirkwood makes for local people affected by life limiting illnesses.

“We are passionate about the impact their support can have. By working together we can reach more people in need, support more families and carers who don’t know where to turn and create a true movement made up of the people who know and love our local area and believe, like The Kirkwood, that we can achieve more when we work together.”

In their dry state FloodSax are super-absorbent yet very thin with a large surface area so are highly effective at soaking up water inside homes and businesses, especially if it’s dripping in through leaky roofs or windows or in hard-to-reach places such as beneath pipes, radiators, sinks, boilers and refrigeration units.

This prevents water from spreading and causing severe damage to floors, electrics, plasterboard and furniture, along with fixtures and fittings.

FloodSax are transformed into instant sandless sandbags simply by fully immersing them in water. The FloodSax’s gelling polymer absorbs around 20 litres in about 5 minutes and retains it, transforming the FloodSax from as light as a pillowcase to more effective than traditional sandbags.

FloodSax sandless sandbags are sold worldwide from the USA to Singapore and from Sweden to Australia.
