FloodSax means kitchen sink drama doesn’t lead to a massive insurance claim

FloodSax saved massive damage to a house after a sudden and somewhat bizarre leak under the kitchen sink.

The house in West Yorkshire has an instant boiling water dispenser unit in the cupboard under the sink which short-circuited, burned out and led to the water leaking from the tap into the cupboard and then seeping out onto the floor.

The owner, Richard, had a pack of FloodSax alternative sandbags ready for such an emergency and immediately deployed them to soak up the water both in the cupboard and on the wood-effect floor.

He said: “We’ve had the FloodSax for a while and kind of knew we’d need to use them at some point as every house has an escape of water or internal flooding emergency at some time or other.

“In their dry state the FloodSax are very thin with a large surface area so quickly soaked up all the water, both mitigating the damage and preventing it from spreading further. In fact, the water vanished from the floor so quickly we think they may even have saved parts of it from needing replacing.’’

FloodSax are a completely unique water damage mitigation product in that they have a gelling polymer inside them which is designed to soak up escapes of water, drips, leaks and internal floods, even in the most inaccessible places such as beneath floorboards as well as underneath sinks, pipes, radiators and boilers.

This makes them incredibly flexible and multi-functional but they can also be transformed into instant ‘sandless’ sandbags in minutes.

To do this simply immerse them fully in water and the gelling polymer inside absorbs and retains the water to expand and become an instant alternative sandbag. Several can then be used to build a protective barrier outside to prevent water getting into the home or divert it down drains.

FloodSax are vacuum-packed in packs of five which makes them extremely space-saving to store and there are four packs in a box of 20 which is easy for one person to carry.

How FloodSax can save tens of thousands of pounds on insurance claims

A box of 20 retails for around £140 yet can easily save tens of thousands of pounds in water damage, along with the misery and trauma of being flooded.

Richard added: “Many people don’t realise that that their insurance policies have a separate excess for flooding which is far higher than their general excess. These days the flooding excess can be £500 for many policies.

“Having the FloodSax has kept the damage to an absolute minimum so we won’t need to claim on our insurance which will also save our insurance premium massively increasing  next year.’’
