It began as an alternative sandbag and has now become a must for domestic and household chores to stop any kind of potential water damage.
FloodSax sandless sandbags have become known worldwide as a highly effective alternative sandbag. In their dry state they are very flat with a large surface area and a gelling polymer inside so when immersed in water the polymer absorbs the water and then retains it so the Floodsax expands to become an instant ‘sandbag’ but without a grain of sand.
Yet in their dry state they have now become an ideal way to solve all household chores and problems where water can potentially be an issue.
They are perfect for defrosting freezers. Switch the freezer off, open the door and then simply place a FloodSax in front of the freezer – slipped slightly beneath it – and let the water leak onto it. The water will vanish into the FloodSax and the gelling polymer retains it so nothing escapes onto the floor.
You can even knock the ice off inside the freezer, drop it onto the FloodSax and carry the entire FloodSax outside, dispose of the ice and then pop the FloodSax back underneath the freezer.
Normally you’d only need one FloodSax to do this and it’s so easy. It means you’ll no longer need to try to catch the melting ice and water in bowls which are struggle or towels that quickly get soaked with the water seeping through to the floor, potentially damaging it.
FloodSax can also be used under sinks, boilers or water pipes to catch water escaping from drips, leaks or ill-fitting pipes.
They are so flat FloodSax will even slip beneath floorboards to prevent water leaking from pipes through the floor and the ceiling below, causing catastrophic damage.
Many plumbers now carry FloodSax as a matter of course in their armoury to prevent water damage.
One is James Lucks, who owns West Yorkshire-based Lux Plumbing and Heating, and he never sets off for work without FloodSax in his van.
They have saved him time on several jobs - often meaning he doesn't need to drain down entire central heating systems just to change a radiator - which also cuts down the bill for his customers.
James was called to a house where a toilet was leaking from a corroded old lead pipe. He put FloodSax around the toilet and across the bathroom floor just in case the leak worsened … and it did in a massive way.
The seal suddenly gave way, sending gallons of water gushing across the bathroom floor.
James said: “The FloodSax not only saved the day but the customer an awful lot of money in damage. The FloodSax soaked the water up which meant it didn’t penetrate the floor and leak through to the ceiling below. If the water had gone straight onto the floor it would have been a ceiling breaker for sure.”
James also had to fix a boiler that needed a new part but in the meantime continued to drip.
So he popped a FloodSax beneath the combi boiler which easily soaked up the water for a couple of days until the replacement part arrived.
James said: “It gave the customer complete peace of mind. The FloodSax are quite large so can easily deal with the drips no matter where they were falling from the boiler and they can even be wrapped around pipes.
“I reckon around 3 litres leaked from the boiler and the FloodSax easily dealt with that amount of water and could have absorbed far more.”
FloodSax come in handy-sized packs of five so are very space-saving to store yet quick and easy to deploy and you’ll have them on hand 24/7 and 365 days a year.
And, of course, you’ll also have them as instant sandbags too if you live in an area prone to flooding.
