The Met Office has just issued its weather forecast for the month ahead and it’s a case of brollies and FloodSax alternative sandbags at the ready.
For a change southern England looks like it’ll be bear the brunt of the bad weather – usually it’s the north.
The south is due to be battered by Storm Alex this weekend with heavy rain and powerful winds while the rest of the UK will be lashed by heavy rain on Saturday.
Then from October 5 to October 14 the rain takes over with the Met Office warning: “An unsettled picture is likely for this period with all parts of the country seeing showery spells as well periods of more prolonged rainfall at times. However, southern and western areas are expected to see the worst of these conditions with the most frequent and heaviest rainfall.”
Temperatures are expected to keep dipping below average so it will feel cold and overnight frost is possible in the north. But we did promise you some better news and for the final two weeks in October the Met Office is forecasting “spells of fine and dry weather that could become more widespread and long-lived.”
The downside to that unfortunately is the risk of frost and fog but at least temperatures will hover around average.
Councils in the UK have no responsibility to provide sandbags and people are responsible for protecting their own homes and businesses from flooding.
Some councils recommend FloodSax alternative sandbag flood barriers for flood protection which are a flexible alternative to traditional sandbags that are space-saving to store and quick and easy to deploy.
When FloodSax come into contact with water they absorb 20 litres which transforms them from being as light as a pillowcase to being more effective than traditional sandbags in just three minutes. Around 2.5 million have now been sold worldwide.
The outlook for the first part of October is rain, rain … and then more rain but there is hope on the horizon.
