Which are the wettest cities in Europe in 2025?

THE UK always takes a hammering at Eurovision … but here’s one European table we’re glad not to top.

It’s for rainfall and, surprisingly, the UK is far nearer the bottom than the top when it comes to revealing the wettest capital cities in Europe.

There are 44 capital cities listed and London is right down there at 37, way below the likes of Rome, Lisbon, Istanbul and Amsterdam.

So, if you’re thinking of a European city break it’s well worth taking a peek at these results – and then perhaps do further research as to the months it rains most in these places. AI seems to be quite good at that these days.

The ‘raining champion’ is Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro which has 1661mm of rain per year, way more than second-placed Slovenian capital Ljubljana which has 1400mm.

London gets 585 a year. Mind you, if the UK’s capital was Manchester it would be more than 800mm.

The soggy statistics are drawn from several national meteorological agencies and were last updated by Yorkshire company Environmental Defence Systems Ltd in June 2025. The company, based in rainy Huddersfield, devised the original, award-winning alternative sandbag, the FloodSax, and around 3 million have now been sold worldwide to protect homes and businesses from flooding both outside and inside.
